Yuja Cha (Korean Citron Tea)

Yuja Cha (Korean Citron Tea)

Bright and Soothing. Yuja Cha is Korea's beloved citron tea — a fragrant, honey-sweetened drink made from yuja (citron) fruit. Traditionally prepared in a clay pot, this warming tea is a go-to remedy during cold winter months and a favourite year-round for its vibrant citrus flavour.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons yuja-cheong (Korean citron marmalade/syrup)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon honey (optional, to taste)
  • 1 thin slice of fresh lemon (optional garnish)
  • A few pine nuts for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat the water: Pour the water into your donabe clay pot and heat over medium-low heat until it begins to steam (not boiling).
  2. Add the yuja-cheong: Spoon the citron marmalade into the warm water and stir gently until fully dissolved. The bits of citron peel will float beautifully.
  3. Sweeten to taste: Taste and add honey if you prefer a sweeter tea.
  4. Serve: Pour into a tea cup, garnish with a lemon slice and a few pine nuts on top.

Tip: The clay pot retains heat wonderfully, keeping your Yuja Cha warm at the table for a long, leisurely drink. You can find yuja-cheong at most Korean grocery stores.
