Ssanghwa-tang (Double Harmony Tea)
Restorative and Warming. Ssanghwa-tang is a traditional Korean herbal tonic tea, often enjoyed during cold weather or when feeling under the weather. This dark, aromatic brew combines medicinal herbs with a raw egg yolk stirred in for richness — though it's equally delicious without.
Ingredients
- 1 packet ssanghwa-tang herbal mix (available at Korean markets)
- 3 cups water
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 raw egg yolk (optional, traditional)
Instructions
- Add the herbal mix and water to a clay pot.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 30–40 minutes.
- Strain through a fine mesh sieve.
- Stir in honey to taste.
- Optionally, place the egg yolk in the center of the hot tea and stir gently.
Tips
- Pre-made ssanghwa-tang concentrate is available for convenience.
- Best enjoyed warm on cold evenings.
