Mugicha (Japanese Barley Tea)
Cool and Refreshing. Mugicha is Japan's quintessential summer drink — a roasted barley tea served ice-cold. Every Japanese household keeps a pitcher in the refrigerator during the hot months. Its mild, roasty flavor and zero caffeine make it perfect for the whole family.
Ingredients
- 1 mugicha tea bag (or 1/4 cup loose roasted barley)
- 8 cups water
Instructions
- Bring water to a boil.
- Add the mugicha tea bag or loose barley.
- Boil for 3–5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.
- Remove tea bag, transfer to a pitcher, and refrigerate until cold.
Tips
- For cold-brew mugicha, place the tea bag in cold water overnight in the fridge.
- Best consumed within 2 days.
