Daechu Cha (Jujube Tea)

Daechu Cha (Jujube Tea)

Naturally Sweet and Comforting. Daechu Cha is a traditional Korean tea made from dried jujubes (Korean red dates). It has a rich, naturally sweet flavor with hints of caramel and apple. This caffeine-free tea is a favorite wintertime drink believed to promote restful sleep.

Ingredients

  • 10–12 dried jujubes
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional)
  • Pine nuts for garnish

Instructions

  1. Rinse the dried jujubes and slice them open slightly.
  2. Add jujubes, cinnamon stick, and water to a clay pot.
  3. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 40–50 minutes until the liquid is deep red.
  4. Strain, pressing the jujubes to extract maximum flavor.
  5. Add honey if desired and garnish with pine nuts.

Tips

  • For a thicker tea, blend the softened jujubes and strain.
  • Pairs beautifully with Korean rice cakes.
