Stainless steel whiskey stones set of 8 with tongs and gift box

Why Whiskey Stones Keep Your Drink Cold Without Watering It Down

The problem with ice

Ice does two jobs at once. It cools your drink, and then it melts into it. For a good whisky or a carefully mixed cocktail, that second part is the problem. The longer you sip, the more water you add, and the flavour you paid for slowly disappears.

How whiskey stones work

Whiskey stones chill by absorbing heat from the drink, the same way ice does, but they never melt. You freeze them, drop a few into the glass, and they pull the temperature down and hold it there. Your last sip tastes like your first.

Stainless steel stones do this better than natural soapstone. Metal chills faster, holds the cold a touch longer, and does not carry any mineral taste or smell into the glass.

How to use them

  1. Freeze the stones for at least four hours, ideally overnight.
  2. Add two or three to your glass.
  3. Pour, wait a minute for the chill to spread, and enjoy.

They will not get a drink as icy as a full glass of ice, and that is the point. They cool it enough to be refreshing while keeping the flavour intact.

Looking after them

Rinse the stones after use, dry them fully, and put them back in the freezer so they are ready next time. Stainless steel will not rust or hold odours, so they last for years with almost no effort.

Good for more than whisky

The same trick works for bourbon, scotch, a negroni, chilled white wine, or a non alcoholic spritz. Anywhere you want cold without dilution, the stones earn their place.

Ours come as a set of 8 stainless steel stones with tongs, in a gift-ready box.
