Sun Tea (Southern Slow-Brewed Tea)

Sun Tea (Southern Slow-Brewed Tea)

Mellow and Sun-Kissed

Sun Tea is a beloved American summer tradition — tea brewed slowly by the warmth of the sun rather than boiling water. A large glass jar filled with water and tea bags sits on the porch in direct sunlight for hours, resulting in a uniquely smooth, mellow brew without any bitterness. It's the lazy, sunny afternoon approach to making the perfect pitcher of iced tea.

Ingredients

  • 1 gallon cold water
  • 6-8 black tea bags
  • Sugar or honey to taste
  • Lemon slices
  • Fresh mint sprigs
  • Ice

Instructions

  1. Fill a large glass jar with cold water
  2. Add tea bags and seal the jar
  3. Place in direct sunlight for 3-5 hours
  4. Remove tea bags and sweeten while still warm
  5. Refrigerate until cold
  6. Serve over ice with lemon and mint
