Hojicha (Roasted Green Tea)
Smoky and Mellow. Hojicha is a Japanese roasted green tea with a distinctive reddish-brown color and a warm, smoky aroma. The roasting process reduces caffeine and bitterness, creating a smooth, comforting tea perfect for evenings. Brewing in a clay kyusu teapot brings out its best qualities.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons hojicha tea leaves
- 2 cups water (approximately 90°C / 195°F)
Instructions
- Heat water to just below boiling (90°C / 195°F).
- Place hojicha leaves in a teapot.
- Pour hot water over the leaves.
- Steep for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
- Pour into cups, making sure to pour the last drop for maximum flavor.
Tips
- Hojicha can be re-steeped 2–3 times.
- Try hojicha latte by adding steamed milk and a touch of honey.
